Dolores O'Riordan was an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. She was the lead vocalist and lyricist of alternative rock band The Cranberries.<\/p>

One of the most recognisable voices in rock , she was known for her lilting mezzo-soprano voice, signature yodel, emphasised use of keening, and strong Limerick accent. Keening (Irish: caoineadh) is a traditional form of vocal lament for the dead in the Gaelic Celtic tradition, known to have taken place in Ireland and Scotland. Keening, which can be seen as a form of sean-n\u00f3s singing, is performed in the Irish and Scottish Gaelic languages (the Scottish equivalent of keening is known as a coronach).<\/p>
